Halla

Accessibility statement

Last updated: 6 October 2026

Halla is built for people who use disability services, so being easy to use is the point of it, not an extra. This statement covers the Halla app at app.halla.ie.

What we aim for

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA.

What Halla does to be easy to use

  • Short or More detail: every screen a person reads comes in two versions, short words or more explanation.
  • Read to me: Halla reads the screen out loud.
  • Talk to me: say where you want to go.
  • Bigger writing and stronger colours, from Help.
  • Works at 200% zoom without losing anything or scrolling sideways.
  • Big buttons, at least 44 pixels, easy to press.
  • Works with a keyboard and screen readers, with a "skip to main content" link and a visible focus.
  • Colour never says something on its own: there are always words or a shape too.
  • Opens without a password: people a service supports can open Halla with a Halla card.
  • Respects "reduce motion" settings.
  • Works on phones first, and can go on your home screen like an app.

How we check

  • Every page we change is checked with an automatic accessibility tester (axe) before it goes live.
  • We check by hand with a keyboard, at 200% zoom, on a phone, and with read aloud.
  • Halla has not yet been audited by an independent accessibility expert. We plan to, and to test with disabled people, paid for their time.

What we know is not perfect yet

  • Maps: the map itself is hard to use with a screen reader. Every map has the same places as a list, with how to get in and the nearest stop.
  • Scanning a Halla card needs a camera. You can open the link on the card instead, or your coordinator can give you a new link.
  • Talk to me depends on your phone or browser understanding speech, and doesn't work in every browser.
  • Notifications on iPhone only work when Halla is on the home screen.

  • or ask your coordinator or a Supporter to tell us for you.

We reply within 5 working days, and tell you what we will do about it.
